Often operators have drilling equipment that is still fit for service but the original manufacturer is either difficult to work with, unwilling to support the legacy designs, has lost key engineering talent, or is completely out of business. If you have an API Cat III or Cat IV inspection and having trouble with the OEM, Headwater can offer the same diligent engineering expertise with better service.
Headwater will visit your rig site and do a complete rig survey and API CAT IV inspection. This rig survey will detail all pertinent information to allow the engineers at the office to build complete API 4F structural and FEA models. We will review all API 4F load conditions accounting for any auxiliary equipment that has been added since initial fabrication. Any required structural upgrades will be detailed on a comprehensive set of fabrication and installation drawings. Our CAT IV inspection report will give you a full picture of the shape of your mast and substructure including any handling operations that are causing wear or structural damage. Our reports give a detailed summary of action items along with repair procedures including weld procedures giving clear, easy to follow, instruction to the welders while also suppling the operating with the necessary detailed paperwork.
After the upgrade package (if necessary) is on site, an engineer from Headwater will supervise the welders and installers and ensure all upgrades, and modifications are API compliant. After the final inspection and all Action Items flagged during the initial inspection are closed out, Headwater will then supply a new API 4F compliant rating plate along with certifications for all critical and overhead equipment. This will make Headwater the new, “adoptive”, OEM engineering company for the lifespan of the equipment.
